Lilly Brush - A Review

I have a terrible time with my sweaters pilling, especially under the arms. I am often afraid, however, to use mechanical shavers to remove pills as I have heard horror stories about those items ruining fabric. Instead, I thought I would give the Lilly Brush a shot.

Lilly Brush
Source
The Lilly Brush is made with nylon bristles organized in a unique pattern to gently remove pills without injuring fabric. It is meant for natural fibers such as cotton, wool, cashmere, etc. It can also be used to remove pet hair or dirt. I found the brush to be very comfortable on the hand and had not trouble moving it across fabric. Does it work? Yes and no. It worked well for my thinner sweaters. It easily removed pills and re-groomed the material. However, I also found that the material was a bit thinned in places where I had used it. I suppose this is to be expected since the pills are built up material. The Lilly Brush was more difficult to use on thicker pile sweaters, even if they were natural material. I found that while it worked on plain sweaters, anything with a cable knit or pattern lead to less successful results. As indicated in the product description, this did not work on non-natural fabrics. I tried it on thinner fleece pants, and it did nothing. Let me reiterate that it isn't supposed to work for non-natural fibers. I just wanted to give it a full test of my clothing items. In addition, it worked very well at removing pet hair and lint from a variety of fabrics, both natural and otherwise.

Dionis Winter Berry Lotion

Every winter I become obsessed with skin care. I get intensely dry skin on my body, particularly my hands, legs, and heels. I am also a sucker for winter scents. My latest find is Dionis Winter Berry Lotion. I adore this stuff!

Dionis skincare products are made with goat milk. They go on smoothly and really sink into the skin. If you have ever shopped around a Cracker Barrel, you will probably have seen their line of products. You can also find them at specialty shops. What I love about their hand lotions is the way they sink into the skin. They leave your skin feeling soft and supple without any greasy residue. Even better, the moisture lasts throughout the day, including hand washing. Their unscented lotion is truly unscented, which is perfect for those who work in small spaces (such as offices or medical centers) where fragrant lotions can be overwhelming to others.

My favorite scent, however, is the Winter Berry. It is part of their seasonal collection and smells like Christmas in a bottle. The scent is described as "fresh cool pine combined with spices, fruit, and berries." It smells like a wreath with pine, cranberries, and clove. Simply fabulous!

Stay beautiful!

Holiday Gift Guide: Beauty Stocking Stuffers

I'm back! Work has been hectic lately, so I wasn't able to post this week as much as I anticipated. I have already shown you all my favorite gifts for various ladies in your life. Today's Holiday Gift Guide features my favorite beauty related stocking stuffers. I have most of my Christmas shopping done, but I always seem to save stocking stuffer purchases for the last minute. One year I believe I was out on Christmas Eve at Walgreens at 10pm. Not this year! This year I wisely planned ahead. Here are my top picks for beauty related stocking stuffers under $10.

Beauty Magazine Subscriptions
Magazine subscriptions make a great gift in general, but they also make a great stocking stuffer. My suggestion is to buy a couple different magazines and wrap them up in a tube. Stick them in the top of the stocking and let the person pick which magazine they prefer. My favorite beauty mags are Glamour, Allure, and Marie Claire.

China Glaze Cirque du Soleil: Worlds Away Collection - Igniting Love

Raise your hand if you love a great red creme? I sure do! I have a hefty collection of them and never seem to get enough. Igniting Love from the Cirque du Soleil: Worlds Away inspired collection by China Glaze is a a bright and punchy red creme for spring that doesn't disappoint.
China Glaze Igniting Love

Color: Igniting Love is an orange based red creme. It is very bright on the nail, but not quite in neon territory. In some lighting it looks a little more pink that gives it an orange coral tone. I really like this color on my nails, and it will be a great pedicure color for summer. That glossy finish you see is all the polish, by the way. No top coat used.

Holiday Gift Guide: Beauty Gifts for Pre-Teens

I had a request from one of my lovely readers regarding appropriate beauty gifts for pre-teens. I think the first thing to consider if you are not the parent is how the parent's feel about their child wearing makeup. If you get the go-ahead I think beauty gifts can be a great option, especially as girls start to get interested in makeup. Below I have included some beauty ideas, including stocking stuffers, that are appropriate for ladies who are a bit young for full blown makeup but are interested in beauty products.

Bath and Body Works Gift Sets
This is a classic for a reason. Young girls love bath and body works. Is this the most original gift? No, but it is something that they are pretty much guaranteed to like and you probably won't offend anyone's parents. I'd recommend picking something up from the limited edition Holiday collection. My personal favorite (for many years) is Winter Candy Apple. You can buy a gift set or put one together yourself. A nice combination would be a body lotion, shower gel, and body mist.Retail Price: $9-$35.

Holiday Gift Guide: For the Girl on the Go

Have a friend or family member who is always travelling? How about a lady who seems to carry her entire life in her purse? Here are my top gift ideas for women who always seem to be on the go!

Eco Tools Travel Brushes

Eco Tools Travel Brush Sets
Eco Tools makes absolutely lovely (and natural) beauty brushes. I have two different travel sets, one for eyes, and one for face. Both are just the right size and rather compact. They travel very well for both throwing in my purse and putting in a carry-on bag. My persona favorite, right now, is their Bamboo Eye Brush Set. It comes with 5 different eye brushes in a small case with a built in mirror. Retail Price: $7.99

OPI Skyfall Mini Polishes

OPI and China Glaze Holiday Nail Polish Minis
I always bring nail polish with me when I travel. I like to feel put together and have options. Toting around a big bottle of polish, however, isn't practical. Instead, I bring my mini-polishes, which are both TSA approved (so are the larger bottles) and super easy to pack. My favorites for this holiday are the OPI Skyfall collection mini set of 4 and the China Glaze Holiday Charms set of 4 polishes. These also make great stocking stuffers!  Retail Price: $8-$12 depending on where you purchase.

Holiday Gift Guide: For Your Mother-in-Law (a.k.a. Can't Go Wrong Gifts!)

What do you get for the woman in your life you might not know very well? Often this includes a new in-law, but it can also include coworkers, new friends, or more distant family members. Here are my suggestions for great gifts that anyone you know will enjoy. Not all of them are beauty related, but they are definitely can't go wrong gift!

L'Occitane Hand Creams
L'Occitane Hand Creams
L'Occitane makes beautiful products that many consider a splurge. Anyone would feel pampered and treated receiving a bundle of their hand creams. If you aren't sure what scents she should like, pick up a sampler with various options. My top pick is the Hand Cream Bouquet, but there are other sets at various price points. For a more personal touch, head out to your local store and put together a little gift basket on your own. You can mix and match other beauty items such as decadent soaps and scrubs in different sizes. If you absolutely aren't sure what fragrances she would like or are sending her a card in the mail, consider a gift card if she has a boutique near her. Retail Price: $40, other sets starting at $18

Yankee Candle Jar Candle

Yankee Candle Jar and Shade
Yankee Candle produces, in my opinion, the absolute best quality candles out there. Their scents are well blended, burn perfectly, and last forever. Their variety of scents is limitless and their candle accessories are beautiful. One of my favorite gifts to give is a jar candle with accompanying shade. You can tailor the size of the candle and shade to your budget and to her tastes. Alternatively, put together your own gift set by choosing a few votives and a lovely votive holder for a more affordable option. My top scents for the holiday season include Pine Cone and Lime, Home for the Holidays, and Sparkling Snow. Retail Price: Various ($15-$55)
