China Glaze New Bohemian Collection: Deviantly Daring Swatches and Review

I checked my local Sally Beauty today, and they had the limited edition China Glaze New Bohemian collection! I picked up Deviantly Daring, though I almost snagged a couple others. I am trying to be very judicious in my nail polish purchases, but couldn't pass up a metallic teal.

Color and Finish
This is described as an "adventurously bold peacock teal." This is a true teal - toeing the line between blue and green perfectly. This polish is certainly bold! It looks a bit lighter in sunlight, but it was raining all day and couldn't get good outdoor pictures. In the bottle it looks a bit duochrome, but this does not show up on the nail. Instead. The metallic in this polish is incredibly deep which really helps to accentuate the beautiful color. Deviantly Daring manages to glow on its own. Truly stunning!

Hawaiian Tropic Silk Hydration Lotion Sunscreen - A Review

Who else is working on their summer tan? I know I certainly have gotten more bronzed this summer. That being said, I am religious about wearing sunscreen. Hawaiian Tropic recently debuted their Silk Hydration Lotion Sunscreen which promises both moisture and sun protection in up to SPF 50. Let's see how it fared.

Here is is resting on my favorite retro flair bathing suit.

Texture

This lotion has a really silky texture, but still maintains some heft. When you put it in your hand, it has a nice density to it. It isn't runny at all and almost has a whipped texture to it.

Sally Hansen Magnetic Nail Color in Polar Purple

I must admit that I am pretty much over the magnetic trend. I have purchased a few bottles and never really worn them. That being said, the trend appears to be going strong with OPI and China Glaze releasing new collections this upcoming year. Recently, Sally Hansen released their magnetic line, which is actually pretty great. Here is Sally Hansen Magnetic Nail Color in Polar Purple.

Color
I thought this was going to be more purple in base, but it is really a purple pink, which is fine by me! I think the color is absolutely great. It looks wonderful on its own even without using the magnet.

Summer Look - Bright Lips

When summer rolls around, I love to play around with my make-up. I tend to wear less eye make up and foundation because it makes my face feel heavy. I also tend to lighten up on the eye liner as a muggy Southern summer does not cooperate with many liners. Instead, I go for a bright and bold lip. My favorite look is a bright pink lip with golden champagne eyes and a pink cheek.

China Glaze Adventure Red-y Swatches and Review - On Safari Collection

Here is the final polish I have from the On Safari collection - Adventure Red-y. If you haven't picked up any polishes from this collection, get the to a beauty store. They are seriously lovely! Adventure Red-y is no exception!

Color
Adventure Red-y is a perfect true red. Not too dark, not too light, not too blue, not too yellow. Just right! Goldilocks would be proud! This is just a gorgeous red. A classic that still feels very current.

NYC IndividualEyes Custom Compact - A Review

I have had this product for a while, but am just now blogging about it. I don't own very many NYC products, mainly because I haven't had much luck with the brand. So here is my review of NYC IndividualEyes Custom Compact. Spoiler alert: I'd save my money if I were you.

Packaging
I think the packaging on this is really clever. I especially like the inclusion of a highlighter and primer in the kit. Very smart! I also like that the shades have a plastic cover that indicates where each color should go. The back of the palette also has an illustrated guide. This makes it perfect for those who are newer to makeup or are looking to try some new techniques. The eye shadow applicator is pretty terrible though - more on that later.

China Glaze I'm Not Lion - On Safari Collection

I'm Not Lion is a total stunner! This has to be a close second to Exotic Encounters for my favorite color from the On Safari collection. So beautiful!

Color

I'm Not Lion is best described as a champagne gold glitter. In the bottle it looks a bit more gold than on the nail. It has little pieces of holo micro glitter interspersed. The holo effect shows up more prominently in the bottle than on the nail. On the nail, the holo really just makes the nail sparkle like crazy.

China Glaze Kalahari Kiss - On Safari Collection

I have a few more polishes from the On Safari collection to show you. Today, I have for you Kalahari Kiss - a beautiful yellow.

Color

It's a bit hard to describe this color. I would call it a light butter cream yellow. It has slight beige undertones and is surprisingly flattering on pink toned skin. I am really digging this color. It isn't too mustard for me and feels really fresh.

I have at least a dozen hand creams, mainly in purse friendly sizes. I have high expectations for these types of products given the variety at my disposal. When I received this Sally Hansen Nail and Cuticle Creme for review, I really wanted to put it to the test - and it met my high standards beautifully.

When I first saw the press release for the Fall 2012 On Safari collection, I knew I had to pick up Exotic Encounters. It is a vibrant dusty teal creme that leans green. This polish has an incredibly chic feel and, though there are many teals out there, this on just seems so new and fresh. Good job China Glaze!

Polish & Co. - Too Shy and One Week or Two

I recently posted about a newly released nail polish brand based out of North Carolina called Polish & Co. Today I have two shades from their core line to share with you - Too Shy and One Week or Two. Overall, these polishes are quite nice and definitely worth adding to any collection. This post is very pic heavy. 

Formula and Brush

Before I show you swatches of the two colors, let me begin by saying that the formula on both of these was on the thin side. They weren't watery, but they were thinner than other polishes I have worked with. They weren't too thin, though, so there wasn't any cuticle pooling. The brush on these is also different from what I am used to. It is quite long and skinny. The post of the brush is also quite long as well, so there is quite some length between the handle and the end of the brush. Below is a Polish & Co. brush (bottom) compared to a China Glaze brush (top). This brush design actually works quite well with the thinner polish.

China Glaze Jungle Queen - On Safari Collection

Today I have for you China Glaze Jungle Queen. I love the name of this polish. It makes me think of the old Tarzan movies from the 1940s, though I might be the only person of my generation who has seen them. I sure do love TCM. But I digress - back to the polish! Here is China Glaze Jungle Queen:

Color

Jungle Queen is a really interesting earthy purple with mauve and eggplant undertones. These are highlighted by a slightly lighter purple shimmer running throughout the polish. Jungle Queen is really beautiful in that she seems to change colors depending on the lighting. I love polishes that do that. I feel like I am getting multiple looks out of one manicure! It also appears that Jungle Queen is a dupe of Chanel Paradoxal. Check out a full comparison here.

China Glaze Elephant Walk - On Safari Collection

Today, I have for you China Glaze Elephant Walk - a perfectly named polish. This week I am showcasing polishes from the current China Glaze On Safari collection for Fall 2012. I must say that Fall collections are by far my favorite, and this collection as a whole is stunning. It is filled with beautiful cremes, a few shimmers, and some fun glitters. I also love the general theme and think the polishes are very aptly named. 

Color
Elephant Walk is a beautiful grey with a light silver shimmer. The gray tone has almost a green undertone on my skin, which is quite stunning when mixed with the silver shimmer. The contrasting shimmer color is subtle but gives the polish an interesting textural feel. I certainly don't have any color like this in my collection.

Urban Decay at Nordstrom Rack

Exciting news for those of you who have a Nordstrom Rack near you. I walked into my local store to find they had an array of Urban Decay products at fantastic prices!

Primer Potions
My NR had three different primer potions: Original, Greed (a golden primer), and Eden (a matte primer) all in full sizes for $8.97 each. They are the old style with the applicator - hence why they are at NR, but they are still good. If you haven't given these a try yet, they are pretty much the gold standard for eye shadow primer and are perfect for helping you keep your makeup in place during the summer!

Maijan Moroccan Argan Oil with Grapeseed & Essential Oils

I am a big fan of hair oils and have tried several. I was particularly excited to give Maijan's Moroccan Argan Oil with Grapeseed and Essential Oil (say that three times fast!) a try as it is composed of 100% pure pressed oils. No silicone bases here! Overall, I was very impressed with this product. The packaging is very easy to use. The eyedropper gives you control over how much product to dispense and the cap screws on tightly. This oil is not as heavy as some other oils I have tried, and I personally prefer a lighter oil. That being said, it still has some viscosity to it and isn't too runny. The bottom line is that this product worked for me! A little goes a long way, and this really did soften my hair and improve shine.

I did have one problem with the product that will not affect many of you out there, but is worth mentioning. This oil is incredibly fragrant. It has a very strong heady floral smell that, quite frankly, I found overwhelming. It actually gave me a headache. Because of this, I did not try this as a body oil so I cannot comment on its claims to soften and improve skin. I had a friend try this product, however, and the scent didn't bother her in the slightest. So if you are sensitive to strong floral scents, this is not a good product for you. That being said, Maijan also makes a fragrance free Argan oil that might be a good alternative.
