Essence Forget It! 3 in 1 Concealer Review

I have had good luck with Essence's products. I think their price point is wonderful, and their products are of good quality. A couple of months ago I picked up their Forget It! 3 in 1 Concealer on a whim at ULTA. I think correcting concealers can work wonders on little problem spots on the face. Anything that makes us feel more confident definitely gets a thumbs up in my book. Let's see how the concealer worked out.

The packaging on this is really cute. It is smaller than the size of your palm and is in a lovely compact style package. This makes it perfect for throwing in your purse on the run. The concealer has a creamy texture which  stays securely in the compact. The concealer comes in three different shades and is split into a rather chic pie design. The green combats redness - perfect for around the nose and for problem spots.
The pink combats darkness - great for those under eye circles. The beige is meant to cover up any additional problem areas and can even be worn in conjunction with the other shades.

I cannot stress enough how great it is that all three concealers are in one little package together. Other companies should take note and follow suit! Very convenient. You also get quite a bit of concealer for your money, which is much appreciated. The separate pans do not come out of the compact and are very secure. Also, the siding is high enough that the colors don't blend together. While I love the idea of this palette, I had issues with the actual product.

Orly Mysterious Curse - Swatches and Review

I know my blog has been a bit nail heavy, but I have been really inspired by recent nail polish releases. Orly wowed me with their Cool Romance collection and now they have come out with the Dark Shadows mini collection based on the movie by Tim Burton. I love cross promotions like this and was really excited to see the polishes in person. I was most excited about Mysterious Curse and picked it up immediately - by pestering my local Sally's lady to go into the stock room and find it for me.

Mysterious Curse is a gorgeous blue and purple shimmer. This is pretty much the ultimate blurple. This borders on a duochrome, but doesn't quite get there. It does have a beautiful plum undertone that mixes with the bright blue shimmer in a delightfully fun way. There is something really refreshing about picking up a dark and fun color during the spring season when everyone else is sporting neons and bright shimmers. That being said, this color will also be perfect for Halloween!

Game of Thrones Manicure: Melisandre

Thanks for all the lovely comments on my Daenarys Targaryen inspired manicure! My next Game of Thrones manicure is inspired by Melisandre, the Red Priestess. I seem to be inspired by the strong female characters from Game of Thrones.

Melisandre is a priestess of the Lord Light, and she is fierce-some. This is one woman you don't want to piss off! As the main adviser to Stannis Baratheon, one of the claimants to the Iron Throne, she wields an incredible amount of political power in addition to her sorcery. In the books she is described as having fire red hair, alabaster skin, and bright red eyes. This is punctuated by her bright red robes and a bright ruby worn at her throat. My Melisandre inspired manicure captures her fire.

For the base I used OPI Color So Hot It Burns and then layered with Essie As Gold As It Gets. I love this red! I would describe it as a fire engine red. The gold flakies were meant to inspire the colors found in a flickering flame. This actually turned out more subtle than I expected, but I think it captures Melisandre's essence. Everyday Favorites: Freeman Beauty Chocolate and Strawberry Facial Clay Mask

I love this face mask! Not only does it smell really yummy - and make me very hungry - but it also works very very well. Freeman Beauty has several different types of face masks, but I have to say the Chocolate and Strawberry variant is my favorite. It simply leaves me face luminous and bright, which is precisely what I am looking for in a face mask.

Sometimes clay masks can be a bit difficult to spread, but this one spreads easily while still maintaining a thick clay consistency. When it dries, it is relatively easy to wash off and doesn't leave any residue on the skin. It doesn't tingle too much, but I definitely feel it working. The results are fabulous and at under $5 a tube, it has quickly become my favorite face mask.

For a great at home facial, use a facial scrub at the end of your shower. Immediately after getting out of the shower, slather on this face mask. Wait 10 minutes to dry. Wash off. Use a toner and then follow up with a moisturizer. Do this about once a week and your skin will continue to look fresh and luminous.

You Tell Me: Professional Nail Care - Worth it or not?

Today, I will be getting a professional pedicure for the first time in over a year. I normally do all my nail care at home. I find it to be more economical, sanitary, and just a better fit for me. Sometimes, though, I just want to be pampered. That is when I head out to get my toes done. I refuse to let anyone touch my finger nails, however, ever since I got an infected cuticle from a poor salon (which was actually rated very highly). So you tell me dear readers, do you think that professional nail services are worth the money? What do you look for in a good nail salon? Do you have any nail parlor horror stories?

Game of Thrones Manicure: Daenerys Targaryen

I am quite the Game of Thrones fan. I love both the TV series and the books, though I still have two more to go. For the past few weeks, I have been playing with the idea of doing a manicure series inspired by the characters from the books (and TV series). I finally took the creative plunge and did so! For my first manicure, I chose to channel Daenerys Targaryen.

Game of Thrones Manicure Daenerys Targaryen
Daenerys is the last heir to the House of Targaryen, the former rulers of the Seven Kingdoms. During the first season/book, she is sold off to wed the leader of an eastern nomadic warrior tribe and is a scared young girl. As her story unfolds, she finds her inner strength and starts her quest to reclaim her throne. She becomes an incredibly strong and powerful female character in her own right, often juxtaposed with women in the series that take on more traditional gender roles. My Daenerys inspired manicure comes from her striking physical features - her platinum silver hair and lavender eyes.

For the base, I used China Glaze Gothic Lolita. It provided a nice strong dark lavender purple upon which to contrast the shading. I then used a make up sponge to progressively layer three different polishes until I achieved the desired look. I used Orly Au Champagne, Zoya Dannii, and Revlon Carbonite to achieve a blended purple and platinum look. More pictures after the jump!

Jessica Iridescent Eye (a.k.a Chanel Peridot and OPI Just Spotted The Lizard Dupe)

When I first saw Chanel Peridot, I gasped. It is so amazingly gorgeous. I seriously considered coughing up the $25 for it and even tried it on a Nordstroms. I decided to wait though, hoping that OPI would make a dupe. Well now OPI is coming out with a dupe to be found in their upcoming Spiderman collection - Just Spotted The Lizard. I was very excited about getting it. That is until I stepped into a salon when I was visiting San Diego and spotted Jessica Iridescent Eye (the original Chanel Peridot dupe), and for less than retail price! I immediately snatched her up!

Iridescent Eye is gorgeous!!! Just look at that baby! It is a multichrome that flashes from gold to green and blue. This is much more pronounced in person. This is one of the first polishes I have worn in a long time where I have been stopped by people, including a straight male friend, and asked what I was wearing on my nails. The gold has this really beautiful antiqued age feel. I would certainly call this color peridot - good job Chanel! I do want to let you know that the polish is much more multichrome in person. It looks much more green and less gold on the actual nail.

Wet n Wild Teal of Fortune

I really love the convenience of fast dry nail polishes. Few brands make them now a days, but Wet n Wild has a rather large line of quick drying polishes. I was drawn to Teal of Fortune. In the bottle, it is a darker teal with large glass flecks of blue, teal, and gold.

This wore a bit differently on the nail. It came out very very blue - almost an ocean blue. The different color tones of the glass fleck were lost. They just looked blue as well. It was also surprisingly sheer. The polish is still lovely, don't get me wrong, but the complexity was lost on the nail which was a bit disappointing.

This did dry pretty quickly, though not as fast as other quick dry polishes. The brush on this bottle wasn't too bad and I was able to apply two thin and even coats. Overall, I like the polish.

**Update** This polish stains like crazy trying to take it off your nails.

Are you a fan of Wet n Wild? They certainly have a large variety for a highly reasonable price.

Aveeno Positively Ageless Correcting Tinted Moisturizer Review

I was really excited to try this product. Aveeno makes the best facial sunscreens, and their lotions save my legs in the winter time. I had pretty high expectations for their Positively Ageless Correcting Tinted Moisturizer. The product claims to reduce fine lines and wrinkles overtime and to improve skin discolorations. Let's see how it held up when tested.

Let's start with the things I liked about this product. First and foremost, it has SPF 30! That's fantastic for a tinted moisturizer/foundation. Second, I really love the smell. It smells like ginger, which is a scent I simply adore. I also liked the texture of the moisturizer and the packaging of the product. The product wasn't too runny and the pump dispensed just the right amount for the face and neck. Finally, it did cover my blemishes.

China Glaze Full Spectrum = Wowza!

I picked up three of polishes from the new China Glaze Prismatic Chroma collection - Optical Illusion, Prism, and Full Spectrum. I knew I wanted the first two, but didn't think I would like the third. That is until I saw it in person. Overall, these polishes are flawless. They apply like a dream, are opaque in two coats, and are so shiny you need doors! These have quickly become some of my favorite glitters. For Easter, I wore Full Spectrum. This girl is a beauty!

Full Spectrum starts out as a really gorgeous icy platinum. It is a bit sheerer than the other polishes from the collection, but it does build to full opacity. What you see in the photos is two coats. I personally don't mind VNL, so I didn't worry about a third. Read on for more pictures!
