Valentine's Day Nails - Claire's Magnetix Nail Polish in Dark Pink

Happy Valentines Day! I hope you all take a little bit of time for yourself today. I will be spending my evening drinking wine and watching the conclusion of the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show. It has been years since I did Valentine's Day themed nails. I'm pretty horrible at nail art, but wanted to do something fun. Enter my recent purchase - Claire's Magnetix Nail Polish.

I must admit that I have been fighting the magnetic nail polish trend. I viewed it as a novelty item that I will probably only wear once or twice so I didn't really think it was worth the money, in all honesty. However, I stopped into Claire's where they had multiple colors of this line and a nice price point. I picked up two polishes - one in dark pink and one in gold. As it is Valentine's Day, I decided to wear the dark pink version first. The dark pink polish comes with a wavy magnet (as does the blue and green version) while the gold and silver come with a straight line magnet.

I was really pleased with the results! I followed the directions and had absolutely no problems.  The magnet detaches from the handle for ease of use, but mine was an incredible pain to get off at first. That was really the only issue I encountered! The polish itself, even without the magnet, is a gorgeous pink mauve with lots of sparkle and a bit of a flat finish. I found that applying a thin coat to all nails and then applying a thick coat to one nail at a time using the magnet as I went worked best. I also experimented with how long I held the magnet to the nail and found that a design emerged within 5 seconds of use. The best results were really achieved with a 15-20 second hold. This created a more dramatic look where as a shorter time created a more subtle look. It was also fun to experiment with how I held the magnet as it affects the direction of the waves. The magnet even has raised indented guides to lay on your finger to prevent touching. This polish did chip easily on me, but I typically only wear polishes for a day or two in any case. I'm really excited to try the gold and straight magnet version!

I was also very surprised that the formula wasn't goopy and the brush was very wide, making application a breeze.  For the price and versatility, this really can't be beat. These are currently (and I think nearly always) B1G1 1/2 off. If you mix the colored polishes with the gold/silver ones you get two different magnets for your money and can create some fun looks. The polishes are really lovely on their own so even if you tire of the magnetic trend you will have a nice polish for your collection. What do you think of the magnetic trend?

Stay beautiful!
