Hello readers. I have gotten several requests to show you my costume make-up for Ariel as the next installment of my Disney Princess series. I loved Ariel growing up. I was totally one of those girls who would flounder around the pool pretending she was THE little mermaid and would use the arm of the couch as an impromptu rock to perform the final reprise of "Part of Your World." Here is the inspiration:

Ariel is a fresh faced teenager, so I really wanted to focus on making her look natural but with a bit of spunk (her character is quite rebellious). To begin, I used a slightly lighter shade of foundation on my face and used a highlighter on the cheeks and nose. The most important part of this look (I would argue) is the eyebrows. They are red, which may be a problem for those of us who are not red heads or who do not have cherry red eyebrows. There are two ways to create red eye brows - powder or lipstick. I do not have red eyeshadow, so I went with the red lipstick route. Do not be afraid. You can use a grit stick or soap your eyebrows, but it is not necessary. Apply a hefty layer of foundation to the eyebrows. Then, using a lipstick brush, apply bright red lipstick to the eyebrows. Take the time to blend between applications until you get the desired pigmentation. Use concealer to clean up a bit and make the line sharper. You will look strange, but it will make sense when you put on your bright red wig.
For the eyes, you want a bright eyed look with a dark lash. Begin by putting a shimmery champagne or cream color all over the eye. Next, use a dark brown liner (black will look to harsh) along the top lash line. Also apply the liner all over the lid up to the crease. Use a brush to evenly distribute the pigment. Next, take a shimmery mid-tone brown and apply to the crease and lid. Take the same eyeliner and apply to the bottom lashes about 2/3rds across the bottom lash towards the inside. Finish off with false eyelashes or several coats of mascara to the top lashes and a bit of mascara to the bottom lashes along the liner. Finally, put a bit of blush on the cheeks and throw on a red lipstick (the same one you used for the eyebrows will work just fine).
